An installation to the International reading competition "Battle of the Books" (2010, British School of Beijing)
I have always been fascinated by the Chinese art of "shadow theatre". Traditionally the shadow play figures are beautifully made out of  leather pieces and are moved by puppet players behind the screen. I studied these figures and tried to adopt the style in this work. The idea was, according to the theme, two opposing armies which seemed to evolve out of open books and battle against each other in the air. The parts of the paper figures have been made in the same way as the original leather puppets. To distinguish between the armies I used different shades of paper. Each warrior is an individual piece in terms of posture, expression and character. Each army consists of 12 warriors freely and slowly moving from the ceiling. More warriors and horses seem to jump out of the book pages below.

In 2020 I did a commissioned work for "Bible Study Fellowship", an International organisation which offers free and in-depth biblical studies.
That year an online gallery had been started with artists from all over the world.

One of my rules is working from out of the book spine. But there are always exceptions...
In order to create a deep hole for the well, I started from the book cover to cut a round shape throughout the whole book, page for page. Finally by using the cut-out material I then built the upper part of the well.

With this work I want to illustrate my belief that it is good to "dig deep into the Word".
